How often should I have a checkup?

We recommend a checkup with the dentist once every 6 months. Early intervention is key as the sooner we're able to pick up issues such as decay, gum disease or tooth loss, the sooner we can help combat these issues and better preserve your natural smile for a lifetime.

What should I expect from my hygiene appointment?

We like to create a spa-like experience and pride ourselves on the comprehensive induction program each of our highly skilled hygienists completes before joining us - designed to ensure an almost painless experience. Dental cleaning shouldn't have to hurt to be thorough. We also go the extra mile with our patient care, including a warm blanket or cool towel to enhance your comfort.

What is the role of technology or 3D imaging in complex dental procedures?

Digital technology, including 3D imaging, plays a crucial role in planning and precision for complex dental procedures, improving accuracy and patient outcomes. At Collins Dental Image, we offer digital smile design which includes a digital scan, plus a 3D printed simulation which allows you to try on your new smile to see what you will look like before you go ahead with treatment.

What are the advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces?

Invisalign has a number of advantages, including virtually invisible aligners which means they are more discreet than traditional braces, plus convenience as they can be removed when eating or drinking. However, suitability depends on the complexity of the orthodontic issues which can be determined through a consultation with our experienced dentists.

What is the process in relation to getting veneers?

At Collins Dental Image, we offer both composite and porcelain veneers which are a natural looking option to enhance your smile or mask any dental imperfections in a shorter time frame than orthodontics. We use 3D technology to help visualise and design the natural-looking smile you want before commencing any treatment . The treatment process varies depending on the type of veneer you choose, as well as how many teeth we enhance and other factors, but composite veneers can be done in one visit whereas the most natural looking porcelain veneers require at least 2 visits. Ask your dentist at your next visit.

Do you always need a crown with a root canal?

Root canal therapy is needed in situations where trauma or decay have caused inflammation or infection resulting in severe toothache and associated pain. Our dentists will do everything possible to help save your natural tooth by removing damaged nerves and sealing the canal. To protect the biting surface of the tooth, it's often necessary to use a large filling, or in some cases, crowns or inlays.

What factors contribute to the longevity and success of dental implants?

Implants can last indefinitely - the crowns on top can last 10-20 years. Good oral hygiene habits at home, regular visits for implant maintenance as part of your checkup and clean, plus healthy lifestyle habits contribute significantly to the long-term success of dental implants.

How long do the effects of teeth whitening typically last?

IResults do tend to vary, but whitening can last anything from a few months to a year depending on the form of whitening you use. In-chair whitening tends to deliver longer-lasting results than take-home whitening for instance. Drinking coffee, tea or red wine may have an impact due to their staining effects. You can always keep your teeth white with a home whitening touch-up .
